It sounds like a whistle or whinnie (trill intonation) it’s not a screech owl, nor is it a horse. I’m a midwesterner from the US (Indiana). Sitting by my open window at 3am and I just heard an unfamiliar animal sound. Could it be deer? I’m at a loss. submitted by /u/Creme_Small [link] [comments]

Owls as a group, for instance, have gone from omens of doom to adorable hipster mascots – I blame J. Or maybe the dark horse of this race will be a bright bird we haven’t yet learned to fear. No one does the intersection of scary and ornithology better than me!

I am driving down the dirt track in the Carska Bara Ramsar site (Serbia) and a cloud of dust closely follows me, like a rider on a pale horse. Just for fun, it seems – joie de vivre? Alongside the road are European Stonechats , White Storks and the flute-like song of the Eurasian Golden Oriole comes from some thickets.

Raptors : A pretty high number of raptor species occur in Costa Rica but hold your feathered horses raptorphiles because most are rare! For example, including falcons and excluding owls, I have seen 34 species and still have a chance at several more. Speaking of owls. : A kettle of Mississippi Kites from last year.

Fair parts of the property were used to cultivate different crops, some areas were pasture for cows and horses, and other areas were covered in forest that was meant to be logged, selectively or otherwise. Scope looks were had at the pygmy-owl just before we saw the jacamar. The picture might not be so great but the bird is.

They took dogs to Australia, chickens across the Pacific, rabbits to England, horses to the New World, and then brought potatoes back. It should surprise no one that someone brought horses, or goats, or chickens. People have moved useful plants and animals around with them as long as they had the wit to do so. But hedgehogs?
