The road was under water in three sections and the Masked Lapwings and Black-winged Stilts were using the clarity of the water over the sealed road and the lack of hiding places to their advantage. Guano-covered rocks (called Seal Rocks I am told, but my guess is that a seal would struggle to get up here to bask) just off the beach will probably quickly catch your attention. In winter a few ducks are likely. A morning visit gives excellent light conditions from behind.

Hitting Bottom in Brooklyn, or, A Boat Aground

We made our way from our boat’s berth out to and around the tip of Breezy Point, seeing the typical and expected ducks like Long-tailed Duck and Red-breasted Merganser. A bunch of Harbor Seals of Swinburne Island was a nice consolation though.
