Birding a flooded highway

The road was under water in three sections and the Masked Lapwings and Black-winged Stilts were using the clarity of the water over the sealed road and the lack of hiding places to their advantage. With the first rains we get mass frog breeding events and the flooded land is covered in tadpoles.

Hitting Bottom in Brooklyn, or, A Boat Aground

We made our way from our boat’s berth out to and around the tip of Breezy Point, seeing the typical and expected ducks like Long-tailed Duck and Red-breasted Merganser. A bunch of Harbor Seals of Swinburne Island was a nice consolation though.

Lake Bindegolly National Park

The National Park is unusual because it offers very few facilities compared to most, but there is a sealed road right into the small car park and a shade shelter with a table and chairs and information about the park. Apparently they breed to the south and return to feed at Lake Bindegolly. miles long.
