Miriam’s is a plain, simple place offering delicious local cuisine cooked in a wood oven, combined with an awesome birding station! Like most of the lodge, this bathroom has a glass wall, this one overlooking the feeders and my lifer mammal, my first opossum ever. Checking the field guide, I came with a Common Opossum.

Little Barrier Island and the New Zealand Storm-petrel

The island was mostly forested through its history and never had introduced browsing mammals, meaning it had an intact flora. It also is home to the breeding sites of vulnerable seabirds including the Cook’s Petrel and Black Petrel, both species are considered vulnerable.
