Here’s an image I took of a Plain Chachalaca in Harlingen, Texas coming in for grapefruit originally intended for orioles. They are species that breed in the US and then spend the winter in Central and South America, eating what’s avialable–especially fruit. All sorts of birds can be drawn in by fruit.

These are extremely large stick structures (some articles compare the largest ones to the size of a car) that are usually populated by multiple breeding pairs in separate chambers. Monk Parakeet is the only parrot species that builds its own nest. Some articles speculate that the nests offer protection against the cold.

I was puzzled why the authors decided to include Buff-breasted Flycatcher, Pine Flycatcher, and Tufted Flycatcher, species that have extremely limited range in North America.
