Sure, this is normal occurrence across much of Europe and southwest Asia but this particular tale comes from out on the east end of New York’s Long Island, in the town of Medford, where this happened to an unsuspecting non-birder, Celeste Rovner.

…maybe there’s a secret Corn Crake breeding farm out in Gilgo Beach. I drove up to where now only two cars were parked, and saw Steve and Isaac, two New York birding friends, stood in the middle of the median. In New York State! No, I’d remember that, I didn’t see that many birds in France.

Originally found on Saturday, 7 January, by Peter Priolo, the Barnacle Goose in these pictures has been present on Eastport Lake in Eastport, New York, since, though it does fly out to feed in nearby fields from time to time. That is, of course, awesome for birders like me who like to see neat geese without having to fly to Europe!

Anas strepera is a common and widespread duck, breeding across northern Europe and Asia, as well as central North America. Here in New York, as on most of the east coast of the United States, Gadwall are a year-round bird, breeding in appropriate marsh habitat.

Lately, it’s been hot and mostly dry here in eastern New York lately, with long stretches of humid, summery days without wind or rain, when even the slightest breeze would have provided some relief. The winds have abated too, with the gentle breezes of spring giving way to the still, oppressive heat of summer. But none came.

Will Raup is a birder from upstate New York who helped Corey learn a lot about birds when Corey was first starting out as a birder. The species spread north to the Mediterranean, reaching parts of Spain and southern Europe, spread along the Atlantic coast of France and, at times, even reaching Britain and Ireland. coromandus.

There is another area of the Queens County CBC where a team will also likely see Monk Parakeets , Myipsitta monachus , but I am seriously determined to count that bird for my area, Coastal Flushing, a section of northeast Queens, New York, that includes Whitestone, home of one of the loudest invasive bird species in the U.S.
