And the book is about much more, ripple effects from what happens when part of a living thing becomes the central ingredient to a highly visual, social, profitable business. I did often wonder while reading the book whether the result equaled the effort. The late Victorian age was not a good time to be an egret!

Though I haven't been able to surf the Internet that much recently, I have found it difficult to avoid discussion of Foer's book. In fact, both books glorify small farms (though Foer is more selective), and both have the support of people who create and kill animals. Tags: Books Ethics. That has to be good, I tell myself.

This book has so many great quotes that I'm going to have to write a couple of posts about them. Whenever the media report that someone has killed "an endangered animal" or "an endangered species," they too confuse an individual with a species. Hunters kill members of endangered species. In setting out to write this paper, my intention was to fill a gap in my book Animal Liberation. Instead the argument for vegetarianism is based on the suffering that is, and as far as I can see always will be, associated with the rearing and slaughtering of animals on a large scale to feed urban populations.
