This is a chance to recharge out batteries, spend a little quite time together and try to get in a whole bunch of birding done. We have found a spot that is right at the place where a very large arroyo meets up with the Sea of Cortez. This was a real bonus spot last year, especially with migratory sparrows.

What that meant for me, birding wise, is that I could get out for a few hours in the morning and then get home and get to it on my laptop without having to worry about things like showering, getting dressing, or commuting. The first bird that came into view made me think. And this bird was way out over the water.

Have you read my blogs on birding Greece ? But, however successful it proved to be at the moment, waiting for accidental appearance is not the best birding tactic. On both routes, some 50-60 km / 30-40 mi from the border lies one magical lake where you should spend at least two nights and devote one full day to birding.

Therefore, I am jumping at every opportunity to explore a new area, and subsequent birds that might be there. My wife and I have had our boat up in that area many times, and I knew that there would be a good shot to add a few new birds from the far northwest end of the US. Our next stop was at Stewart Island, in Reid Harbor.

“The estuary and the delta of the River Kalamas form the most important wetland of northwest Greece”, so the “ Birding in Greece ” guidebook claims for the area where I am heading, a bit late since I overslept this morning. Yet, beside a few Little and one Great Egret , a raft of Eurasian Coots , no birds. It is getting a bit hot.

There are a variety of websites to the north of Broome where people can upload their photographs of individually marked birds as they make a stopover on their journey. There is a coordinator that makes contact with the banders in the overseas countries and then the information on the individual bird is posted online. Eastern Curlew.

My best bird of the weekend was a Great Black-backed Gull , a rarity in a land-locked Serbia, with less than 10 observations so far. At first, I made a few record shots, digiscoping through the Swarovski 25-60×65 STX with a hand-held mobile phone, until the battery went flat. The choice of a scope reflects one’s approach to birding.

Try a bird bath or a bird feeder right outside the window. Drain the Batteries: Schedule some time in the morning before work to give your pets some exercise. Lock up the doggy doors when you leave. Visual Entertainment: Cats love a good show. Set up sources of entertainment in places that are within view.

This is great news for animal rights because it's one more piece of evidence that humans aren't as exceptional as we like to think we are. Angier can't resist writing: "A bird in the lab worked like a bird in the bush." At least there is a similar response given by the scientists in this article who study animals.

The 2015 Queens County Bird Club Big Sit at Fort Tilden on Saturday was a rousing success! In addition to having more participants, we had more bird species, 76, beating out last year’s inaugural effort by two whole species. It’s not every day that you get 64 species in Queens before House Sparrow ! Ospreys are awesome.
