Two hours after getting off the boat after checking out Sperm Whales we were off again out to find some albatross. This Short-tailed Shearwater is a passage visitor from Australia, on its way up to see America! Multiple visits to Kaikoura in different seasons are giving me a better idea of the variability of the area.

Furthermore we have another very special stork-like bird, the regal Shoebill , previously known as the Whale-headed Stork but now placed in its own family. Like the Adjutants in Asia and Jabiru of the Americas, the Marabou is our bare-headed scavenging stork. It is also related to Wood Stork of the Americas and Milky Stork of Asia.

To my knowledge, this is the first compilation of seawatching sites in the eastern part of North America. It is a challenging activity. It’s a great start.
