However, despite our best efforts to wipe them off the face of the earth, some of the more vulnerable species have managed to hang on. this species breeds. My regular cycling to Marlow Lagoon and Sanctuary Lakes during our stay has been productive and varied for birds as the water levels change. One lake has had a lone Australian Pelican in for several weeks and in the last few weeks there has been the arrival of Magpie Geese and numerous Radjah Shelducks. Australian Pelican.

As I continued south I stopped at each small jetty to see which species were roosting and the sea was substantially rougher than on my previous visit. I am unsure of the exact species that were present, but there were no doubt Crested Terns among the feeding frenzy. Australian Pelican. Black-winged Stilt at St Kilda.

The driveway also showed up some large, floppy Pheasant Coucals (there is no word that applies to this species better than floppy, they remind me of my parents’ cocker spaniel) and some Whistling Kites circling over a small (managed) bushfire, and some White-faced Herons.
