However, in this post, I’d like to lay out the basic numbers as we pretend to know them about overall bird mortality, human related causes of mortality, and somewhere in there I’ll note that the number of birds that are killed by windmills is so small that it says “zero” on my pie chart. So keep that in mind.

Whooping Cranes Shot and Killed in Kentucky

Fish and Wildlife Service has announced the death of two Whooping Cranes in Hopkins County, Kentucky. The mated pair was passing through the area last fall as part of Operation Migration , an effort to restore a migrating population of the birds to the eastern United States. It’s deja vu all over again , sadly.

What I don’t understand is why animal rights organizations almost completely ignore wildlife. Habitat destruction and degradation is far and away the number one reason why wildlife populations are extirpated or go extinct.
