Kibale National Park, in the west of the Central African nation of Uganda, is home to a 13 primate species, from Common Chimpanzees to bush-babies.

The Afrotheres consist of several groups of mammals that evolved in Africa and include elephants, hyraxes, elephant shrews, aardvark, pangolin and golden moles.

Puffbacks belong to the bush-shrike family Malaconotidae and this group are called puffbacks due to several of the species forming a habit of puffing out their fluffy white back feathers during display. This is rather a difficult bird to photograph as its a denizen of the canopy and sub-canopy of Africa’s rainforests.

Prions are an interesting little group of procellariid, distinct from the gadfly petrels, shearwaters and fulmarine petrels, and I’ll dedicate a post to the group at some point in the future. Fairy Prions ( Pachyptila turtur ) And then there were the “true petrels&# , insofar as that group has any taxonomic meaning anymore.

The Turmi area is home to the Hamar tribe who numbering nearly 50,000 are one of the largest ethnic groups living in the Lower Omo Valley (with an approximate population of 200,000 tribal people). Most of the tourists, of which there are quite a few, opt to go on the tours provided by the Supporters, so by walking away quickly from the slowly coalescing groups we were able to lose the crowds quickly. You start hearing and catching glimpses of birds as soon as you land, particularly the fast moving Tui.

We already had South Africa, Zambia and Uganda under our belts, but my clients’ request for the next year came right out of the blue: Ghana! The rare Rufous Fishing Owl was one of the many species seen by the group here.

Uganda 1079 17. As the least accessible, Bolivia unjustly attracts less attention in this group. Yet, I would advise you to also consider Uganda.
