During our tenure there, we had exceptional views of Africa’s largest ( Verreaux’s Eagle-Owl ) and smallest ( African Scops Owl ) owls, the largest bird on the planet, not neglecting numerous hornbills, sunbirds and weavers. While the group pursued the owl a little further, I became distracted by excited whispers in Swahili.

This is a rather typical group size for Bronzed Cowbirds. So there you are. A cool, slightly spooky blackbird versus a muddy-looking blackbird? Native versus invasive species?

After we got back to the cars everyone pulled chairs out and sat down for a cup of tea (I had neglected to bring some but was not to go without thanks to the hospitality of these fine people). A passing raptor was, depending on who you asked, certainly or probably a Brown Goshawk. A pitta, in Sydney, in winter, is a pretty mega bird.
