There appear to be two main threats to this species; being accidentally hooked on fishing lines and in drift nets, and waters warming quicker than it can adapt to (hello climate crisis). However, we can’t go wrong in protecting habitat at and near the place where the one specimen was taken; a site on Miravalles Volcano.

They look crap but presumably offer some protection for the chicks, though not from each other (see the murderous activities within the nests in my previous post ). He was also nearly strangled by a pet python that he kept. Blue-throated Bee-eaters build nests on sticks sticking out of the water.

While snakes protect their eggs, and may protect their young for a short period of time after they hatch, baby snakes are very soon on their own. Waterbirds feed their young fish. Although it might look like they could have a pair or two lurking beneath all those chest feathers, they actually don’t. Care does not include milk.

Perhaps the males will grasp a fish in their small bills and bring the morsels back to prospective mates. There are a few simple rules to follow to protect the birds and their nests: Keep your dog on a leash – I love dogs, but sometimes their enthusiasm gets the better of them.

I hope she has some kind of protection against him. From Pets News. A 27-year-old man who attacked his ex-girlfriend and killed her pet fish has been sentenced to two years probation and a psychological evaluation. The woman fled, then returned to find her fish on the floor with a knife through it.

The rodents eat the bait, stagger out of the building looking for water, and are easy prey for whatever carnivore happens to be passing by, be it wildlife or someone’s pet.
