Owned and run by a local family, they treated us very well, even making sure that we had coffee by 4:30 in the morning. Despite part of it being chomped by cattle, we still managed a juvenile Rufescent Tiger-Heron , an excellent find for Costa Rica!

They are members of the Parulidae family and Horneros are members of the Furnariidae family, a nice example of parallel evolution. I was practically right next to the two in this photo (and, note the Rufescent Tiger-heron photobomb). Favorite Big Bird: This must be the year of the Jabiru for 10,000 Birds.

Of course, it is quite common for human parents to set fire to their family homes in order to keep the adult children from moving back home, but this is not an issue for drongos. In Singapore, a Tiger Shrike was observed casting a pellet after eating a large scarab beetle.

And for this overview, I will chose #1 and #2: Corbett and Kaziranga national parks, both in the north/north-east, right under the southern slopes of the Himalayas. Other wildlife includes Asian Elephant , Tiger , Leopard. Impressively, India has more than 60 hotspots with more than 300 species, about 20 of those even with over 350 sp.

Mosethla Bush Camp guide awaits us by the open Land Rover and with a loaded rifle in front of the steering wheel, we continue into the bush (oddly, while observing lions and tigers in India, not a single rifle was in sight). A little further, there’s a family group of Savannah Elephants with two two-year olds.

Generally the large family herds of buffalo are peaceful, but the old bulls (called “dagga” boys, “dagga” being a Zulu word for “mud” since they are often covered with the substance after their long wallows) who have left the herds tend to be furious with life in general and anyone they can smash in particular.

Water levels are right but the waders are still very scarce. I always choose a target bird for my trips to Florida, which are mainly to visit with family, but I never ever dreamed that one of my FL Life Birds would be a MacGillivray’s. Wicked, right?
