I viewed them at dusk, through a telescope, from a ridge overlooking the area they were hunting. A Suffolk Otter swimming in the Little Ouse river Not all Otter s want to be photographed But this one emerged, though only briefly The otter is, of course, a member of the weasel family. Why not the stoat family or the badger family?)

A bit alarming, given the events of the last few weeks in Missoula, but after years of close encounters with chipmunks and ground squirrels I have finally gotten to have a pretty good idea of a rodent when I hear one. A loud chirp rang from the side of the mountain, and a handful of stones skittered down the talus slope.

You typically do not find a bird this naked or featherless outside of the nest unless there has been a storm or the nest has been attacked by predator like a raccoon, chipmunk, squirrel or corvids. They don’t build nests and some like Great Horned Owls take over old hawk or squirrel nests. That is probably one of the adults.

There’s a Three-striped Palm Squirrel by the side of the track, while Jungle Bush Quails are running across it in front of our Maruti Gypsy, almost the official safari vehicle of India. The Osprey tries another hunt, finally a successful one, while Telia goes deeper into the water and lies down. Very dusty Swarovski CLs.

I’ve noted at least nine species of reptiles and amphibians, even our native opossum and squirrel. At night, we keep our eyes out for the passage of the neighborhood Barn Owl , oftentimes a Tropical Screech-Owl would hunt insects from a low perch on our almond tree. Of course, various species of bats as well.
