Due to the plethora of bird species around, invariably we were to experience something breathtaking. Whether the courtship efforts of the Green Kingfisher or a showdown between Muscovy Ducks , birds continued to carry out their business unconcerned of human eyes. They all coexist harmoniously, apart from the fish perspective that is.

Far less experience the two in a single morning. Numerous Black Vultures , Snowy Egrets and Brown Pelicans were also present. Brown Pelican. Like many other birds we saw that morning, we photographed it and left it right where we found it. We, as humans must strive to be casual, passive participants in life.

It stops those thousands of migrating birds flying across the Gulf of Mexico and directs them right onto the trees, fields, sanctuaries, beaches along the Bolivar Peninsula, where they hopefully find food and fresh water. Multitudes, hundreds of Brown Pelicans and Terns–Least, Common, Foster’s, Sandwich, Royal, and Caspian.

And though there are plenty of places in the United States to enjoy migration (heck even right here in my state of Minnesota) I’ve been fortunate enough to take in migration in other areas. I take comfort in that, when I see a huge flock of birds, I feel so insignificant, it’s liberating.

I don’t really know – from my own experience with school bullies or from Jack London’s novels? Not sure that I impressed them, I chose to bluff them and looked left and right for a suitable tree branch to pick. Those bears live in the wild and are not used to humans. Pelican, Pelecanus spp. How did I know that?
