Forget about doggie day care, spas and designer clothes. According to a recent national survey of American dog owners, the majority say they are pampering their pooches with more simple pleasures, including belly rubs, walks and games of fetch. The survey, which was conducted by ALPO® brand dog food, reveals that just two percent of dog owners say they have ever pampered their pooches by taking them to a doggie spa and only one percent say they have ever pampered their dog with a professional ma

Is There Danger of Elitism in the Animal Rights Movement?

Critter News

This post is inspired by a thought-provoking piece on the Provoked blog (clearly a good name for a blog!) I believe that we have to be inclusive in the animal rights movement and attack the system using all kinds of methods in all sorts of fields. Economics, science, literature, film, politics, law, etc. I'm no sociologist or historian, but it seems like there has always been a variety of inputs involved in any kind of social change, even violence.

Internet Exploits Cameroon's Primates

Critter News

Illegal wildlife traffickers provide fake credentials to establish that primates are being legitimately offered for sale. Their ads claim that the primate comes with "veterinary health documents, a "permit" from CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and a year's health care guarantee. This is totally fraudulent, however, because CITES bans international trade and does not issues such permits.

PETA Goes After The Overweight

The billboard (which you can see on the linked page) is pretty clearly aimed exclusively at women, and plays into their worst fears about body image.
