Dog owners in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, are even being told to kill their own dogs, or else their dogs will be beaten to death by the police and the owners will be charged a fine.

I come down hard on Puerto Rico, ever since the scandal in which dogs were being thrown off bridges by an animal control company. Plus, the horrible pictures I've seen of strays in Puerto Rico. That didn't make it right. Plus the fact that I personally know the Latin attitude towards animals. Plus, well, you get this picture.

She came from another shelter as a stray, had been abused, was very skinny, and she was extremely shy and afraid of everyone. Within weeks, with lots of love, patience, and socializing with other tenants and pets, she was a totally different dog. She then lies down right beside me. I named her Angel.

Not that the iridescent sheen on an adult European Starling isn’t attractive in its way when the light hits it just right, but when your native avifauna consists of orioles and warblers and hummingbirds, nothing the starling is dressed in can really compare. Plus, they’re sort of ugly.

The disappearance of vultures has allowed other species such as rat and [stray] dog populations to grow. A vulture’s metabolism is a true “dead-end” for pathogens, but dogs and rats become carriers of the pathogens. Oddly, I saw no rats, only a mongoose or two and a few stray dogs.

And, in a tree off to the right in that direction, I noticed a mass of stuff that resembled a Bald Eagle’s nest as much as any mass of stuff ever could, but of course, it was not a bald eagle nest. I live near a highway. All winter, I almost never went west on that road, only east, but a couple of times I did go west.
