While not on the scale of bird migration, it is routinely and somewhat lazily described as the biggest annual migration of humans in the world. The Spring Festival – or Chinese New Year – is a big period for traveling in China. Being somewhat allergic to crowds, I usually avoid traveling during the peak of this period.

According to the HBW entry for this species, it “has been claimed that loss of native mammals after European settlement created shortage of nesting material, explaining this species’ penchant for taking hair from humans.” Which of course is the perfect transition to that bird, the Common Myna. ” ( source ).

Dirt hawking is a form of falconry that involves hunting rabbits and other small game with Harris Hawks (other hawk species also qualify). There is no wind and the habitat is perfect for cottontail rabbits and the much larger jackrabbits (actually hares), the preferred quarry of this group of three birds. “HO!!

They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!). to the far reaches of freezing Siberia.

But within a couple of decades, it’s effects on both wildlife and humanity became apparent. They were secure in their isolated home here until humanity came to Laysan in the 1890s. It is correct, of course, to think of extinction this way during the Holocene Extinction, which we are living through right now. What a horror!

Assuming that the fish are kept in a large aquarium that mimics their natural habitat, and that the keeper treats the fish as family (as they would a rescued dog, cat, rabbit, etc.), would you see keeping these fish confined in an aquarium as a rescue effort or as a selfish act by humans that interferes with Nature?
