In Singapore, Common Redshanks mostly drink Tiger Beer. If you take a feral pigeon, bleach it and then batik it using the right colors, the result might be a Pink-necked Green Pigeon (1). Finally, the Yellow Bittern is one of my favorite birds in Singapore, and it is much easier to see here than in its breeding grounds in Shanghai.

There was a Gartered Trogon right above me, and one cooperative Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth on a cecropia tree, raising its head to smile at us. In a rock-garden in the middle of the river, one Fasciated Tiger-Heron was fishing, with both Amazon and Green Kingfishers nearby. A group (maybe 4-5 ex.)

Apparently, when breeding, the two parents divide incubation duties, with one bird taking over the daytime duties and another one the nighttime. Tiphys died either of a snakebite or of a mysterious illness but he was not killed by either a tiger or a rhinoceros. Lucky him, right? At between 4 pm and 6 pm, to be exact.

Taking the famous statement that Mao was 70% right, 30% wrong (Deng Xiaoping), his decision regarding sparrows certainly falls under the second category. But indeed they vanish somewhere once the people pretending to try and catch fish appear.

That is unfortunate because the Tiger Warbler * is one wood-warbler worth watching. It breeds across Canada’s boreal forest and most winter in the Caribbean, though some spend the cold months in Central America. How much cooler is Tiger Warbler than Cape May Warbler ?

I’ve observed quite a few female wood-warblers messing about with nesting material while they are on migration, even in areas where they don’t breed. Whatever the cause, it is cool to see a female Cape May Warbler even if she anywhere near as stripey as her tiger-like male counterpart. See, female birds are good!

The third shrike seen in Shanghai this month was the Tiger Shrike. For Pacific Golden Plovers , the situation is similar – in one study , males showed strong breeding ground fidelity, with 100% (8 of 8 birds) returning to a site in Western Alaska while only one of 4 females (25%) returned.
