Of course for me, there has to be at least some birds in the area, the more the better. And of course birds, lots of birds. This pair of Phainopeplas have built a beautiful nest, complete with two speckled eggs. Here is a list of the birds that we found on, or flying over the property last Sunday: Gray Thrasher.

You just have to go birding on your birthday really, because you never know what might show up. Langi Crossing is always a great place for birds, but they do vary on each visit. There is a good mix of bird species both large and small. Black-fronted Dotterel nest with one egg. Black-necked Stork on dusk.

We sat for a while in contemplation and then headed back west towards Albany, but it was not even ten minutes later and we just had to stop-turn around and observe one of the rarest birds in the South-west. Although a Malleefowl is a large long-legged ground bird (60cm) it is very rarely seen.

The adult Pied Oystercatchers were still at their non-breeding site at Gantheaume Point and will no doubt lay their first eggs for 2015 in the first week of July.

The two most prolific contributors, Pat and Tom, have been sharing their birding space in Costa Rica. The beats have now contributed more checklists than birds. During October, 7 countries (Costa Rica, Australia, USA, India, Hong Kong, UK, Serbia) were birded by 11 beats who shared 135 checklists and noted 697 species.
