10,000 Birds

Danny let us know about a bird he had earlier that he was convinced was a Connecticut Warbler , something I teased him about because he has never seen one and it was fun to tell him that he actually had a Nashville Warbler , of which there were at least two in the park. Learning the Birds: A Book Review

10,000 Birds

I’m not quite sure where I was at the time, probably working, and it was six more years till I got my state Henslow’s Sparrow at Shawangunk NWR (a shorter drive and a more cooperative bird). She frames her story with first a Doonesbury comic strip (remember Dick Davenport, the bird watcher?)

Jinx Warbler Vanquished

10,000 Birds

Note: This is an account, originally published in June 2006, of my quest to remove a jinx bird from my bird-watching soul. I am sharing it again here, at the request of Corey Finger, who takes some sort of sick pleasure in seeing other birders squirm and suffer under the weight of their obsession with life birds. But not me.
