Birding Argentina – Planning Stage

At the early stages of our planning we were aiming to spend a few days in Santiago de Chile and then move to the North-west Argentina where we planned to spend most of our time and then to finish near Buenos Aires. As we spend more time reading trip reports our eyes and mouth continually watered at the thought of also visiting Iguazu.

Save the Whales! Kill Some Gulls?

Gulls in Argentina have learned to land on Southern Right Whales as the whales come to the surface to breathe. The gulls then peck at the whales’ backs, causing wounds from which the gulls feed. The solution? Kill the gulls. There has to be a better way to deal with this, no?

Chalk-browed Mockingbirds; Feeding time.

It is spring in Argentina. I concentrated my camera on the chick on the right which was best placed, but not best pleased when an adult delivered a food parcel to one of the other siblings. All three of them competed as loudly for their parents’ attention, but my chick had to wait for a few passes before it got its share.

Swarovski NL Pure – the Sexiest Binoculars Ever

They are about the same length (NL 6.2in / 158mm; EL 6.3in / 160mm) and weight (NL 30oz / 850g; EL 29.6oz / 840g), and obviously, the same lens diameter, hence, they should feel the same, right? Nothing can be more wrong. I also digiscoped a few lousy photos.)
