In Costa Rica, a lot of those birds fly right overhead. No sparrows or migrant juncos nor hardly any Yellow-rumpeds and forget about Orange-crowned (a serious mega around here!) but there are other birds, many stopping to stay, many others moving to South America.

These wily and diminutive owls occur from Bolivia and Argentina northward through Central America (check out this post on Pico Bonito ) and only just occur in the United States in Arizona and south Texas. Right at the lodge. Its interesting to note that, although the bird just crosses the US border, two distinct races can be found.

Thanks to a fair degree of participation in the right places, I daresay that we birders in Tiquicia did quite well in garnering a total of 650 plus species. As it streaks across the Andean skies of Bolivia and Argentina with its flashy tail, its not hard to see how this bird got the name “comet&#. Coming in at no. 19 is the celestial Red-tailed Comet.
