In the Far East they keep birds of prey which they use to capture other animals such as foxes and rabbits. Many birds around the world in the Robin family ( Turdidae ) are favorites due to their musical songs. The introduction of exotic animals has extirpated and continues to threaten hundreds of species. The Hyacinth Macaw is more than just another pretty face; these birds are social with strong family values. The Hyacinth Macaw doesn’t start a family until it is seven years old. They like to fly in pairs or groups and in the evening they come together in big groups to roost in a favorite ‘dormitory’ tree.

She is an excellent mother, managing not only to feed her four large cubs, but their visiting father One-eyed who comes by every now and then (he has two more families and being the good father he is, visits them all regularly, usually around lunch time). Very dusty Swarovski CLs.

But most of our forest has a combination of both pines and oaks, with dozens of species from each family growing in the state of Michoacán. I can’t really blame the farmers, even though much of the expansion of avocado orchards is the product of illegal slash-and-burn practices (as in the photo below, which I took just last week).

Said Blue-throated Barbet – maybe lacking an altimeter – indeed could be seen very close to its family member at Tongbiguan. Does that mean that families in Florida should on average be larger than in Colorado? This avian marvel, belonging to the family Picidae, is a sight to behold, especially for any dedicated bird lover.
