The Rose-ringed Parakeets of Heidelberg

The Rose-ringed Parakeet naturally occurs in two isolated areas: a thin strip across Africa just south of the Sahara, and south Asia where it is mostly found in India with smaller ranges in adjacent countries. Purple Swamphen: Supertramp or superspecies?

The colorful Purple Swamphen ( Porphyrio porphyrio ) lives in wetlands from Portugal and Senegal all the way east to New Zealand and the Samoan Islands, and a feral population is now well established in Florida. The western Mediterranean birds are bluish-purple all over. Black-backed Swamphen. African Swamphen. Gray-headed Swamphen.
