As a bird-tour leader, the scope was an essential part of my equipment, and I became pretty quick at getting it on to distant birds so that my clients could see them, too.

Europe’s Brown Warblers: a map through the maze

So we have a brown, slender-billed bird in font of us which we now know is a brown warbler, either of the genus Acrocephalus or Locustella. This is a Willow Warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus) and not a brown bird. Plain / unmarked in Savi’s and with distinct pale tips in River. What is next? This is green!

Seven birders, a boat for hire, and a cruise around lower New York Harbor and vicinity looking for good birds. We made our way from our boat’s berth out to and around the tip of Breezy Point, seeing the typical and expected ducks like Long-tailed Duck and Red-breasted Merganser. That’s right, we birded!

Starling & Grackle Bird Feeding Tips

They are clinging birds and use the technique on branches and tree trunks. Chickadees, woodpeckers, titmice (like the bird above) and nuthatches are considered “clinging type birds&# and can easily hang upside-down to get access to food. Gradually add and increase the amount of safflower in your bird feeder.
