Even though the water is shallow it still attracts Australian Pelicans and both Little Black Cormorants and Little Pied Cormorants. Australian Pelicans , Brolga , Royal Spoonbills. There were literally hundreds of Peaceful Doves , Diamond Doves and both Zebra Finch and Long-tailed Finch coming in to drink.

Waterbirds were well represented with an Australian Darter sunning itself on the bank, Little Black Cormorants feeding, Little Pied Cormorants , Pacific Black Ducks , Australian Shelducks , Australian Wood Ducks , a White-faced Heron and a lone Australian Pelican. Birdlife at the Shaw River

The first birds that we noticed in the area were the Straw-necked Ibis , Yellow-throated Miners and Australian Pelicans. Ellendale dam “bonus” birding

Rufous-throated Honeyeaters and Zebra Finch were soon onto the twigs and drinking greedily from the dam. Rufous-throated Honeyeaters and Zebra Finch move in. Little Friarbird , Banded Honeyeaters , Zebra Finch and Rufous-throated Honeyeaters. Banded Honeyeaters , Rufous-throated Honeyeaters and Zebra Finch.

Ellendale dam birding

We were surprised to find four Australian Pelicans in what appeared to be the middle of nowhere, but they appeared to be able to feed in the dam and relax on the muddy edges. Australian Pelicans and Great Egret. Australian Pelican and Little Black Cormorants. Relaxing Australian Pelicans. Peaceful Doves and Diamond Doves.
