Thanks to protection, tame and easy to see at various sites! One of many cool bird species only found in the highlands of Costa Rica and western Panama. Not all that rare, just shy but you might see it on a quite walk in the Monteverde Reserve. Or, one might even appear at the Colibri Cafe. Great Curassow. Purple-throated Mountain-gem.

In Costa Rica, it’s pretty common and easy to see in and near just about any protected forest. If I’m not mistaken, it took more than twenty years for Ridgely’s Guide to the Birds of Panama to come out in a Spanish edition. Book placement in schools would be targeted to sites in the vicinity of national parks and other protected areas which act as a stronghold for a large percentage of the country’s precious avifauna.
