Second Atlas of Breeding Birds in Pennsylvania: A Review by an Atlas Novice

10,000 Birds

So, when Corey and Mike asked if I wanted to review the Second Atlas of Breeding Birds in Pennsylvania , I jumped at the chance to write about this unique type of scientific reference book. 10,000 Birds

There are owls in New York City. Big owls: Barred Owls on Riverside Drive and down the path from Harlem Meer, a Great Horned Owl in Central Park’s Ramble. The NYC owls have little to do with the book in front of me except that it too is about birds and people. But–is that it?

Shutting Your Trap

10,000 Birds

This unlucky/lucky young Red-tailed Hawk was found and taken to Red Creek Wildlife Care in Pennsylvania. A recent thread on my Raptorcare listserv produced one wildlife rehabilitator’s nightmarish photo of a leghold trap firmly clutching the leg of a Great Horned Owl. No owl, just the leg. This website will show you how.
