There are advantages to being a “Pelican Partner” for International Bird Rescue ! First, you get to tour one of their California centers , you get a special opportunity to see a Pelican getting its final medical exam and numbered leg band, plus you get the honor of releasing one, or in my case, two of their rehabilitated pelicans!

It needs to be properly medicated and triaged. Most likely the bird will need to be medicated for a few days “just in case.”. Ok, so you’ve rescued a bird. If you have the desire to rescue and feed baby birds, become a volunteer with a federally permitted bird rehabber; we can always use the help! Find a box.

We medicated her for maggots, picked at least 100,000 of the creepy critters from her abdomen, and finally treated the injury. “Hurry,” he told the sheriff. This eagle is not long for this world.”.

She was tired, thin, and had several medical issues. She was rescued, put back into her crate, and returned to the Raptor Trust. The naturalist got out of his car, picked her up, took the tape off her legs, and took her to a local zoo. One of the animal keepers brought her to me, and I put her in my clinic. to find out her actual age.

Alice Berkner , a registered nurse, came up with the concept of International Bird Rescue while trying to help the more than 7,000 birds that filled warehouses around the San Francisco Bay Area during this 1971 oil spill. Birds are brought to the pre-wash care team for warmth, food, fluids, and medical care.
