Two were paired classics — shots of migrating Snow Geese. Before the main characters were released from prison, the geese were high overhead, inaccessible white spots against blue skies (so distant and out of focus, in fact, that I first misidentified them as Northern Gannets.) Currently, A Chance for Bliss sanctuary is home to 96 residents including 25 horses, 22 dogs, 8 goats, 7 pot belly pigs , 4 sheep, 2 steers, 5 ducks, 5 geese, 5 cockatiels, 4 rabbits, 3 chickens, 3 cats, 1 turkey, a one-winged pigeon, Hines, and a turtle, Bart. The oldest dog, Max, is 17, while the oldest horse, Prince is 36.

The first few years for female ducks and geese are kind of practice rounds. Experienced Canada geese will corral young from less experienced females and you’ll find rafts of 20 goslings tended by a four adults–safety in large numbers. They have excellent hearing, they know you’re still there.

Turtle Dove , Britain’s fastest declining breeding bird Like most birdwatchers, I enjoy doing survey work, though it can be frustrating. A few years ago I helped with the BTO’s Turtle Dove Survey. This was perhaps not surprising, as the Turtle Dove is Britain’s fastest declining bird.

At first I dismissed them for some hybrid geese, until I recognized their JIZZ. European Turtle Dove – Streptopelia turtur 11. There was a Short-toed Eagle ahead, taking flight to be replaced by another ST Eagle. These two were only the first of several I saw. In a shallow pond, there were three young Common Shelducks.
