I can’t help noticing that you’ve just posted an angry story about Cecil the Lion on your timeline. And that lions are really cute. Cecil the Lion reached millions, and it exploded all over my social media in a way few conservation stories do (even with my social media heavily biased towards conservation).

Incidentally, encounters with both aardvarks and zorillas are rare – it’s much easier to see lions and leopards. Lion – much easier to see than an Aardvark In contrast to East Africa, encounters with mammals while out birding in Europe are relatively few. Why not the stoat family or the badger family?)

And the morning before the Mkuze pack of Painted Wolves, or African Wild Dogs, had been very close to one of the park’s few Lions, as far as tracking collars had told. Snow leopards aren't actually leopards, they are actually more closely related to tigers than actual leopards hence why people usually say lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards, AND snow leopards when identifying the panthera genus. • Deer, cattle, camel and goats are more closely related to dolphins and whales then they are with horses. . •

They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!). In Asia they are even commonly kept as pets!

He has volunteered to kill a deer cruelly, ineptly and with an outdated weapon that causes additional suffering to the deer. I’m tired of hearing people who enjoy killing justify it with specious moral platitudes. Animals suffer when killed.

Furthermore we have another very special stork-like bird, the regal Shoebill , previously known as the Whale-headed Stork but now placed in its own family. Marabous have also learnt another trick, and that is to follow vultures and scavenge off the remains of Lion and other large predator kills.
