Once a Peregrine Falcon flew above the veranda, while several distant King Vultures were soaring above the valley. More easily noticeable birds to observe from the veranda also included Gartered Trogon , Lesson’s Motmot (often the very first and the last bird of the day), Crimson-fronted Parakeet and Streak-headed Woodcreeper.

Keep birding and you might see a White-tailed Kite hovering as it hunts rodents and one of the few Bat Falcons in the Valley might dash into view. Lesser numbers of other common birds also occur; birds like the Gray-crowned Yellowthroat , Inca Doves , saltators, Groove-billed Anis , and other species.

One website I found suggested a few others that may be true but I hadn’t encountered before, are young cranes actually called colts, or falcons eyas? They may be, but the names haven’t caught on.
