I don’t consider my little garden to be a terribly birdy patch, although years of observation have resulted in my seeing 59 species there (64, if you count the White-throated Swifts , Black and Turkey Vultures, Red-tailed Hawks and Common Ravens that may fly high overhead). one of our Black-vented Orioles.

I read that if you scale up a mouse to human size and you look at body-lengths per second, they are moving at 152.6 They are not genetically so dissimilar to humans, sharing a lot of our genetic material. A gray blur which moved so rapidly I was not at first sure I had seen it but it repeated and I was pretty sure I had a mouse.

The conversations with family and friends have already begun about "Turkey Day." And of course if you correct someone and say "Dead Turkey Day," you're "buzzkill," or imposing your beliefs or being judgmental. Everyone clearly doesn't include the turkey and the other animals on the table. Not humans, not animals."

One of Africa’s truly exhilarating experiences is watching and listening to a honking flock of these massive birds as they appear out of the early morning mists over a wetland, to land nearby and start their wing-flapping and jumping displays. Below legal size for humans is still legal for pelicans. Hence, the experiment was created: a plot was fenced off to keep the animals away and now willow saplings did survive being submerged for half a year. I do have experience with this species from Bodrum, Turkey; it is daring, bold and cocky, and is impossible to forget.
