On another trip, this time to Slovakia, I heard wolves howling, a wonderfully spine-tingling sound. I viewed them at dusk, through a telescope, from a ridge overlooking the area they were hunting.

I have read that they "self domesticate" -- just like feral wolves will occasionally befriend humans, so apparently will mice.
