Banded Semipalmated Sandpipers at Big Egg Marsh, Queens, New York

10,000 Birds

Now that passerine migration has largely wound down the attention of this New York birder has shifted to seabirds, shorebirds, and the occasional trip looking for breeding birds. It is a great spot for Horseshoe Crabs to spawn and lay eggs so it is no wonder that shorebirds congregate to eat those eggs.

Great Fall Migration Weekend in New York City

10,000 Birds

We have had days of northwest winds in New York and the birds have taken full advantage of the favorable conditions to hightail it south. A Quick Visit to a Mud Puddle

10,000 Birds

Jochen knows why I thought it was important to share this Yellow-crowned Night-Heron at Big Egg Marsh. We spent the bulk of May in New York City with virtually no rain at all so recent rainstorms have filled up long dry puddles and left them irresistible to a variety of birds. With a reflection in this image too! And so pretty!

The Warbler Brewery – Skylight Double India Pale Ale

10,000 Birds

Skylight is a double IPA from the local Warbler Brewery, just down the road from me outside of Albany, New York. But it does earn points for whimsy, depicting a warbler-ish bird with a pale eye-ring and dark mask peering into a nest with three little hop cones as “eggs”. Good birding and happy drinking!
