Stamps in a Weathered Passport

10,000 Birds

Several years ago, I was exposed to the lyrical, poetic prose of a Grand Trunk advertisement. This hammock dealer deftly used imagery to sell the feeling of adventure and exploration without ever blatantly coming out to say it. Although they were not successful in selling me a hammock (at least, not yet), one particular phrase has stuck with me. This phrase evokes a goal and describes the “true traveler,” a person I strive to one day be.

Hey yall. I am wanting to find some information on a topic I don't see many people discussing. I remeber hearing something about it a long time ago but never really looked into it. I have a small forest area in my neighborhood. Its about the size of 5-8 acres. There is a fox, a bear and a few other smaller animals that live in there but they are stuck there.

All Is Not Lost, Part II

10,000 Birds

I truly do hope I am not tiring 10,000 Birds’ readers too much with my obsession with Michoacán’s ongoing drought, the disappearance of Lake Cuitzeo (Mexico’s 2nd largest lake, in normal years), and our own micro-endemic Black-polled Yellowthroat. But obsessed I am. And, as I have mentioned before , under-birded countries like Mexico provide lots of opportunities for amateur birders like me to make real contributions to science.

More Rewarding Rock Outcrops near Bonn

10,000 Birds

After my previous post on my sighting of a Wallcreeper near Bonn, I guess I shouldn’t write a second post on the same bird. However, I visited the same site again to see the bird, and was surprised with two unexpected sightings. The Wallcreeper itself showed quite well again – tho not as well as last time – on the cliff face above the vineyards on the Drachenfels.

Birding Tengchong, Yunnan (again)

10,000 Birds

Among Chinese birders, Tengchong – and particularly the monastery at the bottom of Laifengshan – is known as one of the best places to see the Slender-billed Oriole. I do not quite get the buzz about the Slender-billed Oriole as it looks quite similar to the Black-naped Oriole and apparently is even regarded as conspecific by some authorities.

What the rings reveal

10,000 Birds

Most serious bird photographers dislike taking pictures of birds wearing rings (or what on the other side of the Atlantic you call bands). I can sympathise, as a shiny new ring, clamped to a bird’s leg, rarely enhances its portrait. Frustratingly, standard aluminium bird rings are almost always impossible to read unless the bird is in the hand, as even the best of photographs rarely allow the ring’s number to be read.

How do I get cat pee smell out of my hand?

Reddit Animals

I have neighborhood cats and they Peed on my car cover this morning, so when I was taking it off, some of it got on my hand, I’ve washed my hands at least five times with different soaps, offer, extended periods of time, and I can still smell pee on my hand. Is there anything that’ll help remove this? Also, I fear now that everything I touch it’s gonna smell like cat pee.

Tiger documentaries

Reddit Animals

Hello, I love tigers. They’re adorable and super cool. When I’m having an awful day I like to watch tiger documentaries to cheer up. However, sometimes I find the saddest documentaries on tigers and while they do sorta cheer me up, it just makes me more sad in a different way. Anyone on here know of any good tiger documentaries I can watch that aren’t going to show me horrific images of dead tigers?

Eagles constantly circling in the backyard

Reddit Animals

Hello, My mom's trying to work on gardening in our backyard, but since about 2 days ago, around 6 eagles have been constantly emerging and circling in the air every time my mom goes outside. If my mom goes back inside, the eagles will leave as well. One eagle approached our caulking tool a bit closer as well. We have a small forest+stream area in our backyard (it's multiple houses surrounding that area) fyi.

I want to trap a mouse that lives in my house and keep it as a pet. Otherwise it takes its chances out in the field. What do you all think?

I've had mice come in a few years ago and trapped them (gently) and released them in a field far away but afterwards I read that most mice released like this die very soon trying to live wild.

So if you google what animal has the strongest bite force it will show either hippos (1820 PSI) or saltwater crocs (5,000PSI) But then if you look up what the PSI of an orca is….its 19,000 PSI. But I find no articles saying it has the strongest bite force in the animal kingdom.
