Two days earlier, on Wednesday I used a different approach, searching by canoe after my grebe and five miles later, I had Common Goldeneyes , Pygmy Cormorants , Black-necked (Eared) Grebes , Great Crested Grebes , even a White-tailed Eagle , but no Slav Grebe. Which costed me a lifer. Which I’ve seen, but, technically, haven’t seen.

The second organized outing was a day of megabirding in the company of one of Hong Kong’s most experienced and renowned nature guides. I read that the Peak was a great place for thrushes in winter; experience proved the veracity of that observation, but you’ll need to examine the underbrush closely. Said thrush.
