The Front Range of Colorado offers unique birding experiences from top to bottom. He moved from Delaware to Colorado and then like a week later this bird shows up in Denver. Fort Collins offers the most water in the northern tier of the state, but many of those dang lakes are private.

The water this Northern Pintail is in has human poo in it, which completely ruins the experience of seeing this bird. One of the biggest and more recent face palm incidents with law enforcement and the outdoors happened in Colorado in 2009 when a large marijuana farm was found growing in Pike National Forest.

Living in Colorado, I was practically next door neighbors to a Spix’s Macaw, “Presley,” who was discovered in an Evergreen living room—the only known Spix’s Macaw in the United States—and who was repatriated to Brazil before I even knew he existed. My worries were unfounded but I must say it is an interesting experience to have foxes begging by the table. They are, after all, predators, and while I wasn’t worried about one attacking Desi I was concerned that he would feed them and perhaps get accidentally bitten. What a beautiful beast! Right, back to the birds.
