Reading Deb's post about the goslings at Poplar and getting Jenny 's request to sign a petition to save the Canada geese of Ballwin, Missouri from mass extermination reminded me how much I miss the wildlife at the neighborhood we lived in from 2002-early 2005. Now I have the drama of the feral cats and of course the greyhounds.

Feral geese run the gamut from pure white to almost entirely gray or brown. 4 Responses to “Domestic or Ganky Geese&# John Mar 6th, 2011 at 9:12 pm I see goose hybrids regularly since the local, nonmigratory Canada Geese happily interbreed with the domestic geese at a county park’s zoo. The causes were the usual reasons for island extinction—deforestation by both humans and invasive plants that crowded out native plants, hunting, and invasive rats, mongoose, monkeys, and, of course, feral cats. They have a hard enough time with Canada Geese. Is this the type of bird behavior that makes sense in our world?

Feral Turkey are also quite common. As well as this species you might see Black Swans , Canada Geese and of course Mallards and Mallard/Grey Duck hybrids everywhere as well. Other wading types birds you can see less commonly are Pied Stilts and White-faced Herons ; keep your eyes open as you go past wetter areas.
