The little stiff-tails are almost year-round at Jamaica Bay though almost all leave to breed in the summer and in the depths of winter, when the ponds are almost completely frozen, they tend to head for open water. She was essentially cream-colored, much lighter than the typical female Ruddy Duck. Go check it out! Get yours today!

Striated Heron in breeding plumage – extra plumes and blue lores. Scores of Black-bellied Whistling Ducks circled overhead, these vocal ducks are often hunted illegally here so it was refreshing to see so many. Especially as we were at the time about to experience a rapidly advancing tropical storm. Common Waxbills.

Because “duck, duck, goose” is a little too wintry (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) for a post written in the dog days of August. By tagging the Parrot and monitoring the area with remote cameras, scientists hope to learn more about this species and how to keep it safe.

Ever since I learned that the Muscovy Duck I discovered in a Central Park pond was not countable by ABA standards, I’ve grappled with the question of “What is Wild?” Seeing a condor out in the wild is amazing, fantastic, magical, spiritual – even if they have a blue wing tag.

The male Bar-tailed Godwit are the first to show us breeding plumage and then the Red Knot and Curlew Sandpipers have two beautiful reds-red wine rather than cranberry juice! Breeding colour becomes rather obvious! I really can not compete with Corey and all his great photos of ducks , so here is a photo of my favourite duck door stop!
