These little Tyrant Flycatchers, present from Mexico through Colombia, never fail to charm, with their jaunty crests and characteristic “chewY-chewY!” ” calls. and Canada. Rusty-crowned Ground-Sparrows can become cuter by feeding among Coral Tree flowers, which reflect the color of their crown.

A friend of mine told me, she has been seeing small groups of Swallow-tailed Kites ( Elanoides furficatus ) in the general area; in south Florida. Of all migratory birds breeding in North America, Swallow-tailed Kites are among the first to leave for the wintering grounds. Then, they keep flying south overland to western Colombia.

The first shorebird arrivals are apparently birds that failed at a breeding attempt and don’t have time to re-attempt; they might as well head south early. I have Facebook friends and belong to multiple bird related Facebook groups throughout South America. The fall migration is underway. Cerulean Warbler.

Waxwings and their relatives are a small, interesting group of songbirds that have seen some interesting taxonomic changes in the last few years.
