Sorry about this perch; these Mud Turtles are taking the sun on a discarded Mexican-made General Popo-brand tire. During the winter season, Lark Sparrows are very common in Michoacan’s grasslands. But this Savannah Sparrow chose to perch so close to me, and to stay for so long, that it kind of cramped my birding style!

A quick check of the Collins 2 (I think American birders know this book as the “Birds of Europe”, but here, some branding mastermind has interconnected the company’s name and the book title) revealed that we are facing two Siberian Greylag Geese (race rubrirostris ). Or do we follow the taxonomic approach to birding and name the wood-warblers according to their genetic relationships to other groups, e.g. as Sparrow-Buntings, or Tanager-Emberizids? Do we go with Dale’s suggestion of calling them Silly-Canaries ? Start warblin’!
