A passage of so many birds is always incredible and yet, since many of them fly way up there near the clouds, they are easily overlooked.

They sheltered the chicks under their wings and when there are only two chicks one parent can do this, but with three it seems to be more of a shared duty. The birds immediately flew down towards the dog and tried very hard to tease it and make it follow, but it had no intention in doing that.

It’s also about human-owl interaction on an individual level and a wider sociocultural level, and ultimately how we can use all this for habitat and bird conservation.

Corey was lucky enough to meet Carlos while birding in Ecuador , where Carlos was dragooned into accompanying the horde of Queens birders for the day, an encounter that somehow didn’t turn him off of all things New York. If you have been out birding in southeast Florida there is a good chance that you have run into him in the field.

In the more sheltered areas the heathland is given over to eucalyptus forests. The park has a range of birds that are very typical to coastal heathlands. New Holland Honeyeater ( Phylidonyris novaehollandiae ) There are plenty of other small birds. And a blaze of wildlflowers too.

Birds fascinate us for many reasons. The migration stories of many of those birds is another. Or at stories of a bird like Red Knot B95, twenty-one years old and logging miles that could take it to the moon, and half way back. It is a 15,000 km round trip, for a bird that only typically weighs in at about 28 grams, or an ounce.

A quick search of the 10,000 Birds archives turned over very little in the way of Japanese birding and since I have just returned from Tokyo, having fulfilled an ambition to visit Oi Bird Park, I shall pad out our Japanese content a little. The Oi Bird Park has been renamed and is now known as the Tokyo Port Wild Bird Park.
