Birding in a Refinery

10,000 Birds

Perhaps a little more shock-inducing and paradoxical than concepts of birding at sewage ponds or graveyards, an oil refinery seems to be the antithesis of a desirable place for a birder. In southern Trinidad, however, there is much more at play than what is immediately discernible. Before we had time to gather ourselves, he flew off.

12 countries with the greatest bird species density

10,000 Birds

While Colombia may have almost 2000 bird species, it is a huge country with, still, complicated long-distance travel logistics. On the other hand, small countries with relatively long bird lists offer higher species densities per square mile. The Species per Square Mile Approach. Why 99,999? And why 1000?

Birdy Boating in Baringo

10,000 Birds

Welcome Back, Shorbies!

10,000 Birds

Living in Paradise

10,000 Birds

But I know, we’re here for the birds. The Trinidad Motmot is the only endemic species on the island. The fishing birds have it easy here. Be warned, staying at Cuffie River Nature Retreat may encourage you to cancel your other birding plans on the island. They are quite tame at the lodge.
