This is what we need for birds, whose rights as government-protected species are violated every day by free-roaming cats. Thanks to groups like Alley Cat Allies, outdoor and feral cats have become above the law. What birds need is their own SWAT team. You call the SWAT team. Neighbor B has nine outdoor cats.

Feral Cats in American Cities

The other day, Minneapolis, Minnesota passed a feral cat ordinance. So I put together a “carnival” (of sorts) of Feral Cat Ordinances and Issues that samples current events across the US. From the Star Tribune : Feral cats win a round at Minneapolis City Hall. This got me wondering what other cities were doing.

Pied Oystercatcher chicks two weeks on….

The wind was just too much and they sheltered together in the vegetation at the high tide mark. The two chicks appear to favour being close to the male bird and this is most likely due to the male bird being on the eggs when they hatch. Pied Oystercatcher chick sheltering from the wind.

City of Albuquerque Being Sued for Trap-Neuter-Release Program

From the American Bird Conservancy : The mayor of Albuquerque and the director of the city’s animal welfare department have been named in a lawsuit alleging that the officials have committed animal cruelty by allowing certain illegal and improper animal management practices to occur related to abandonment of stray cats. They do great work!

Feral cats have been an issue in previous years and continue to be a problem along the length of Cable Beach that we monitor. Pied Oystercatcher family wandering the dunes.
