Camel rides are a popular sunset activity for those who want a slow walk! The most common bird along the stretch of beach that the camels walk is the Silver Gull and easily observed and ignored by the majority! However, there are other birds to be seen by the observant. The cable was abandoned in 1914. Go check it out!

CR being the highest category in the Red List , if I want to see some of those birds, I better hurry! In an open Maruti Gypsy, we are heading north from Dasada in the Little Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, along a rather decent tarmac road, between the wheat fields and passing camel carts. Locals being vegetarians, why are there no birds?

If I were to describe my long time wildlife nemesis, my ultimate dip of dips, I would reach for a nemesis cat, not a nemesis bird. Leopard camels in Madikwe. For there is no species that I had more comprehensively failed to see than the Leopard. Wine and snacks in the bus as the sun goes down. Camelopardus !

One pair of Pied Oystercatchers nest just north of the rocks on Cable Beach and have to deal with the four-wheel drive vehicles and camels on the beach, but as soon as the eggs have hatched out they move the family approximately two kilometres further north through the dune system. One particular bird in our area is at least 24 years old and has maintained the same territory for many years. Some birds have given up their territories and/or their partners over the years that we have been observing them, though.
