Collective Arts Brewing: Life in the Clouds

As much fun as it was to add these birds to our Birds and Booze list, neither species is native to Canada, so it’s nice to see a cosmopolitan Barn Owl ( Tyto alba ) on this week’s featured beer by Collective Arts, a New England-style IPA called Life in the Clouds (even if Barn Owls are rather scarce around Hamilton and elsewhere in Ontario).

True, there’s also no frame farmhouse in this background but replacing the female figure with a Barn Owl ( Tyto alba ) provides some agrarian continuity. At first glance, it almost seems like a whimsical sendup of Grant Wood’s iconic America Gothic , sans pitchfork.

I had been hoping that the Barn Owl I’d seen here a couple of days before would appear, but it was clearly back at its roost. A pair of Mute Swans flew over on creaking wings (they are noisy fliers), while a bonus was hearing a Woodlark singing away on the heath itself.
