I’m a midwesterner from the US (Indiana). Sitting by my open window at 3am and I just heard an unfamiliar animal sound. It sounds like a whistle or whinnie (trill intonation) it’s not a screech owl, nor is it a horse. Could it be deer? I’m at a loss. submitted by /u/Creme_Small [link] [comments]

You can own a gorilla in Indiana, but not a bear in Michigan. In Oregon you can’t own any “dangerous” wild animals, but you can get a special permit for a service monkey and anyone can fill their backyard with giraffes. For instance, you can own a lion in Alabama, but not in California. Are we fed up yet?

Somehow they manage to get the bird or animal to a rehabilitator, even though finding one is often a feat in itself. For one – and we’ll stick with this one issue for now – because sometimes the public decides to keep the animal they have found, just for a little while. To these people, we owe our gratitude.
